Rodney is our 22 year old parrot and my baby we have a very strong bond. She fell ill last year and thought we were losing her. She needed a lot of veterinary care.

ExoticDirect made it easier for us to get through the illness. The paid out on every claim and their communications excellent.

I can’t thank them enough and would recommend them to any one. Rodney has made a full recovery and is back being her cheeky self.

I would highly recommend Exotic Direct. We have a parrot and found finding insurance hard to find until someone recommend the to us, after that it was a dream. We visited their website and it was so easy and a few clicks later and all done couldn’t have been easier.

Never had any issues with this company. Be it claiming, changing or adding new policies. I would never leave my ferrets with no insurance and trust them completely with you. Thank you!!!! Vicky is so helpful also!”</p>

Kristen and her Ferret, Rocket

Review received via Facebook on 11th June 2017

In May 2016 my pet ferret became quite ill – he was unable to walk, wouldn’t eat and lost about a third of his body weight in a couple of weeks. He was ill for about 4 months, requiring hand feeding every 4 hours for about 2 months, before he eventually started eating on his own volition again.

For those that don’t know, ferrets are expensive to treat even for (what turned out to be) a minor illness. We found ourselves at the vets weekly, if not more, for medication, pain reduction, blood tests, overnight stays etc.

The final bills came to something like £1600. I was aware throughout that not all would be covered by the insurance (specialist emergency food cost us a couple of hundred over the two months) but I can’t express what a relief it was to know he was covered for the remainder.

The money was received about a week after each claim was submitted. The staff were friendly and answered all my questions efficiently. I was told afterwards that I could have actually had them pay the vets directly, which is something I’d consider in the future.

Thankfully he is a happy and healthy ferret at the moment, and while his health is worth every penny we paid (and would have paid even if not covered), it was nice to be able to claim back a large chunk of the bills.

Thank you for making the claiming process so easy and for being friendly and attentive on the phone when called.

I just wanted to send a quick email to commend you on your claims service. At a difficult time you have managed to settle my claim quickly and efficiently without any fuss. You’re a credit to the insurance industry.

Everyone is quick to complain when they receive poor service but never take the time to praise a company when they have received great service so thought I would take a few minutes to do so.

Well done ExoticDirect and keep up the good work.

Jayne and her Tegu, Tyson

Review received via email 2016

I recently made a claim for my black and white Tegu, Tyson. He had scar tissue in his eye which was causing problems. The situation was very concerning, and required veterinary treatment. My experience with ExoticDirect was very good. The claims process was quick and easy, and I would recommend them, which I have already done!

Elaine Henley and Milo the African Grey Parrot

Living with three African Grey Parrots, I have a policy that covers my veterinary bills if the need should arise. I chose ExoticDirect as my insurance provider as they offered a reasonable priced policy, with a decent level of cover.

I had cause to claim last year, when Milo burnt his foot, silly parrot had tried to climb onto a gas fire! I was really impressed that a claims advisor talked me through the claim process and kept track on documentation. Within weeks I had received settlement of my claim.

I recommend to all parrot caregivers that they should consider medical insurance for that unexpected injury or illness.

Debra Gormley and Hermione the Horsefield tortoise

Review received via email 2016

Hermione was 9 months old when she took ill. She had been off diet and fluid for a few days. We took her to the vet for an assessment. The vet took stool and blood samples and noticed a lot of oral secretions.

She was commenced on antibiotics and admitted into the vets. She was still not tolerating any diet and fluids after several days so the vet advised for Hermione to have a feeding tube inserted into her stomach via her neck.

She had the surgery under a general anesthetic and was kept in for several more days whilst having, medications, diet and fluid all via the tube.

She had the tube in situ for 5-6 weeks while she recovered from her illness. We kept offering food to her orally and she eventually started to take tiny bites. Eventually when she was tolerating diet and fluids orally she had further surgery to have the tube removed.

We could not have done all this without the help from the insurance.

Everything was dealt with between the insurance company and the vets. We did not have to worry about anything.

Today she is thriving and healthy and loving being back in the company of her partner Hadoig. They had to be separated for 7 weeks while she was ill.

We would definitely recommend this insurance company and would not have a healthy Hermione without them.
